The PurpoSE Agenda 2024

At The PurpoSE Agenda held on 3 December 2024 themed ‘Catalysing Early-Stage Support for Ecosystem Growth’, we celebrated ongoing collaborations with ecosystem partners and explored new opportunities to advance the Social Enterprise sector. ​
From an insightful panel discussion to dynamic Ask-Me-Anything circles with our Social Entrepreneurs, a room filled with ecosystem partners, aspiring social entrepreneurs, and the social entrepreneurs themselves was a testament to the power of the ecosystem effect in driving catalytic growth of early-stage Social Enterprises.​

What’s on the Agenda?

The event consists of 2 segments – the morning session is a closed door, by invite only, event for ecosystem stakeholders and funders, where we’ll host a panel discussion and announcement of the 2024 recipients of the raiSE VentureForGood EnergiSE Grant.
Starting from 1pm, the afternoon session is open to the public. Student entrepreneurs, startup founders and SMEs who are interested in impact can find out more about Social Enterprise model through a fireside chat, Ask-me-anything (AMA) circle, and networking session

Ms Theresa Sim

Ms Theresa Sim is an assurance partner, chief financial controller, business transformation leader and a member of the leadership team of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP Singapore.

Ms Sim has more than 20 years of professional experience in providing audit and related advisory services including due diligence for purposes of mergers / acquisitions and other consulting work. Her clientele base covers a wide spectrum of industries which includes property development and management, retail, oil and gas, manufacturing and trading; cutting across SGX listed, government-linked and multinational companies. Through servicing a diversified client base, she has accumulated in-depth knowledge of group audit coordination and reporting requirements in various GAAPs and can value-add in areas of financial, governance, controls and risk management.

In addition to her professional roles, she is the Chairperson of the raiSE Board, an Executive Committee Member and Honorary Treasurer of the Singapore Children’s Society, and a Board Member of the Wildlife Reserves Singapore Conservation Fund.

Chief Executive Officer, e27.co

Mr Mohan Belani

Mr Mohan Belani is the Co-founder and CEO of e27, a startup and tech ecosystem platform facilitating the growth of tech companies across Southeast Asia. To date, e27 has partnered with the top global tech corporates and helped hundreds of startups across SEA scale their companies through fundraising, media visibility, business matching programs and getting connected to customers, partners and governments.

Mohan is also a Partner at Orvel Ventures, a network driven venture capital firm investing in early-stage technology startups in Southeast Asia. Both personally and through Orvel, he’s invested in over 30 early-stage funds and startups across APAC and US and enjoys working with founders and helping them alleviate the challenges of building great companies specifically around the areas of funding and market access. He believes that startups can make the world a better place, and in order for Southeast Asia’s tech ecosystem to be relevant, it needs to be driven by sustainable and impactful companies solving problems at scale.

Co-founder and Director, Cabot Capital Partners

Ms Diana Reeves

Ms Diana Reeves is a co-founder and executive director of Cabot Capital Partners, a Singapore-based boutique asset manager/adviser focused on connecting Asian private market opportunities with mid-sized institutions and private investors globally alongside asset management/CIO capability.

Diana’s multi-decade career in international private investment has encompassed senior corporate, advisory and investment roles including with GE Equity Asia-Pacific, the UK’s DFI, CDC Group and a UAE sovereign entity and locations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Diana brings pragmatic perspective and contextual awareness to stakeholder engagement, strategy development and private investment, and the promotion of ESG-compliant conduct and the evolving sphere of impact investment. Diana is also a member of the raiSE Grant and Investment Committee. 

Co-founder and CEO, Tictag

Mr Kevin Quah

Mr Kevin Quah is the co-founder and CEO of Tictag, an impact-driven tech social enterprise that leverages AI to solve long-tail business problems. Committed to social impact, Tictag partners with social service organisations to provide work opportunities for beneficiaries and creating pathways for them to participate in the AI economy. Since its founding in 2019, the startup has worked with over 14 social organisations, enrolling more than 20,000 data-taggers.

In 2022, Tictag was selected for the Sustainable Impact Accelerator Programme and has also secured follow-on funding from investors, including M Venture Partners, Investible, East Ventures, Telkomsel Ventures, and SBI Ven Capital.

Kevin’s passion for using technology as a force for good fuels his mission to make AI more inclusive and accessible, empowering both businesses and underserved communities.

Chief Executive Officer, raiSE

Mr Alfie Othman

Mr Alfie Othman heads the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise, raiSE. Alfie has had a successful banking career of over twelve years in the banking sector. Alongside his private sector work, Alfie has devoted significant time to the public sector and civil society.

Alfie is recognised as a social enterprise practitioner within Singapore. He founded his own social enterprise to support ex-offenders, single mothers, and persons with disability. Since then, he has also served as advisor and mentor to many social enterprises in Singapore and in the region. Before raiSE, Alfie was the Executive Director of the Social Enterprise Association.

Since 2016, Alfie has been appointed as a Fellow at SUSS, providing advice on Fintech and Inclusive Finance.

Co-founder and Director, Foreword Coffee

Mr Lim Wei Jie

Mr Lim Wei Jie started Foreword Coffee in 2017, a social enterprise coffee company with the goal of reducing social stigma of PwDs and mental health needs by offering training and employment opportunities. In the past 7 years, there have been more than 60 beneficiaries supported. Awarded the Enabling Mark (Platinum) and the President’s Challenge Social Enterprise of the Year in 2023, Foreword Coffee’s inclusive hiring practices have been recognised across the industry.

Wei Jie also earned a place on Tatler Gen.T List for his impact in social entrepreneurship, highlighting him as one of 300 young leaders driving social impact across the region.

Founder, Stick ‘Em

Mr Chong Ing Kai

Mr Chong Ing Kai is the founder of Stick ’Em, an edtech social enterprise that makes STEAM education accessible through affordable kits. His mission is to help children develop problem-solving skills and creativity using everyday materials. Since 2020, Stick ‘Em has impacted over 5,500 students and trained 560 teachers across 11 countries, including 17 MOE schools in Singapore.

Ing Kai’s journey began as a robotics teacher, where he identified a gap in affordable and engaging STEAM resources. Stick ‘Em has won multiple awards, including the SUTD Create4Good Fund and aims to further expand its global reach by making STEAM education accessible to children everywhere, regardless of their background.

Head Strategic Development, raiSE

Ms Koh Wei Shan

Ms Koh Wei Shan heads the Strategic Development team at raiSE, overseeing the functions of strategic communication, digital transformation, membership and impact frameworks, partnerships and benefits, and collaborative financing. 

With her communication and venture-building expertise, she has guided social enterprise founders from diverse business sectors to develop sustainable business and impact growth strategies. Notably, she ran 2 cohorts of the sustainable impact accelerator, Asia’s first VC-based accelerator for socially impactful enterprises, powered by Quest Ventures and raiSE. 

Wei Shan started her career in Ogilvy Singapore, working with local and regional brands such as HSBC Singapore, Hilton APAC, BMW Performance Motors Singapore, MCCY (Our SG), and Skillsfuture SG on their social media and integrated communications campaigns. She also volunteered her time to lead Ogilvy’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives including organising staff volunteer sessions, fundraising activities, and working on pro-bono marketing campaigns for non-profit organisations.

Co-founder and Chief Product Officer, Hatch

Ms Yeoh Wan Qing

Ms Yeoh Wan Qing is the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Hatch, a social enterprise focused on promoting digital accessibility. With a background in volunteer work and startup experience, Wan Qing channels innovation to create positive social impact, collaborating with public, private, and community partners to drive digital inclusion. A key achievement includes partnering with The Asia Foundation and Google to launch capability-building programmes for SMEs.

Wan Qing’s journey began with a passion for empowering youth and fostering community-building, which has evolved into a focus on blending digital innovation and design to create impactful solutions for underserved communities.

Founder, Inclus

Mr Anders Tan

Mr Anders Tan is the founder of Inclus, a social enterprise that empowers Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) through inclusive hiring and training programmes. Inclus’ Train & Place initiatives help PwDs gain industry skills, while corporate training sessions educate companies on disability inclusion. Anders also supports children with special educational needs through his other Social Enterprise, InSchool, which provides tailored after-school care.

Anders is driven by the belief that inclusive hiring isn’t just an act of social responsibility, but a powerful way to build a more resilient and empathetic workforce. Inclus’ impact has been recognised with the ASEAN Inclusive Business Award in 2024. Anders is also a frequent speaker on disability inclusion and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) implementation across the region.

Co-founder and CEO, Commenhers

Ms Nuryanee Anisah

Ms Nuryanee is the co-founder and CEO of Commenhers, a social enterprise that upcycles textile waste into high-quality products. While addressing the environmental challenges of fabric waste and promoting sustainability, Commenhers also empowers local communities by creating employment opportunities for marginalised groups, including vulnerable seniors and women in need.

The company’s name, “Commenhers,” symbolises inclusivity, blending “common” and “hers” to reflect the focus on creating products for everyone. Yanee’s journey to founding Commenhers began during the COVID-19 pandemic, after learning about the vast amounts of unsold textiles discarded by fashion stores. This sparked her interest to find sustainable solutions to textile waste and the fast fashion industry.

Co-founder, Innervate Fitness and Active Silvers

Mr Moses James

Mr Moses James co-founded Innervate Fitness and Active Silvers, social enterprises focused on championing inclusive fitness initiatives for PwDs and seniors. With a background in nursing, Moses has a deep understanding of the physical and emotional benefits of fitness. His mission blends fitness with social impact, empowering underserved communities and driving inclusivity through the innovative use of wearable tech and AI.

Moses and his co-founder, Lionel, have been friends since Junior College and CrossFit coaches since 2010. They founded the social enterprises with a shared vision of making fitness accessible to people from all backgrounds and ability levels.

Co-founder, Go!Mama

Ms Vivian Lee

Ms Vivian Lee is the co-founder and CEO of Go!Mama, a social enterprise providing Singapore’s first network of lactation pods, offering private, safe spaces for breastfeeding in public areas. Founded in 2021, Go!Mama fills a critical gap in breastfeeding support and has successfully collaborated with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, to navigate regulatory challenges.

A passionate advocate for women in technology, Vivian serves on the Women Entrepreneurship Sub-Committee at ACE.SG and as an executive member of the NTUC Tech Talent Assembly. Featured in Tatler’s Gen.T and recognised as a Company of Good in 2024, Vivian is committed to empowering women and mothers, particularly in leadership and technology.

Founder and Director, Amazing Speech Therapy

Ms Beatrice Teo

Ms Beatrice Teo is the founder of Amazing Speech Therapy, a social enterprise dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible speech therapy for individuals with communication and swallowing difficulties. In 2019, Beatrice expanded the business by launching the Dysphagia Café, a unique initiative that combines therapy with social engagement for low-income beneficiaries. In 2022, Amazing Speech Therapy was officially listed under the Healthway Medical Group.

Beatrice is trusted by many renowned doctors due to her high success rate for even the most complex cases. Additionally, she is also well known for her creativity and innovative approaches in addressing gaps and pushing boundaries in her industry.
